So the grass where I am at is singed cause it’s really dry out but there some native plants scattered in the grass that are thriving 😭😭

Which makes me wonder if we prioritized having native plants that are actually ADAPTED to thriving in the climate would we even notice surface level that there’s a drought?

We only consider there being a drought because the plants we plant are foreign that die if it’s not their native rainfall. The native plants are meant for this and to them there’s no drought

Uh no, there’s still very much a drought in a lot of places. You know, climate change, record global temperatures, the 20 hottest years on record being the last 20, all that.

Yes but the native plants can handle it they’ve been thru worse swings over the last few thousands of years. Humans and human modified places tho cannot

Lots of native plants very much cannot handle that. We are in precedented climate territory in some ways, but the last interglacial period was over 100,000 years ago. Nothing currently here has evolved to deal with the conditions we’re putting them through. Native plants are more resilient, and need to be part of solution, but are not the be all end all
