Politically, I honestly don’t know what to do. I don’t know what actions can be made to guide society to its benefit. People are lazy and will continue to use AI. They’re going to continue to generate demand for data centers, which can be seen as supply. It’s basic economic forces. We’re not considering sustainability or clean power generation to support these new centers. And we’re never considering at all whether any of this is actually good for humanity from a societal standpoint.
I’m sick of people saying “it’s not that deep” because it is. Ai data centers are destroying neighborhoods, driving up electric prices and polluting the water. There are terrible environmental factors AND it’s already taking so many jobs and on track to take so much more. There are so many stats about how dangerous it is. Like yes! I am better than you cuz I don’t use ai!
AI is not going away and largely individual text prompts are not the issue. The issue is data centers ignoring community needs and potentially building off of polluting sources of power and water. It’s frustrating to see but the solution is that you need to get back into your community and promote sustainability wherever possible.
