Well the original Smokey did villainize all fire but the slogan was changed to only you can prevent wild fires which is indicative of human caused fire not natural fire.

ALT NPS was originally run by rangers but is no actually longer run by park service affiliated folks. You can get more accurate and timely updates from the account above which is operated by off-duty rangers.

The lack of fire for the past 100 years is one of the reasons they’ve been so bad lately. Dipshit Tom Schultz wants to bring back the 10am policy too it seems.

I think a lot of the discourse that is anti- Smokey bear is missing the fact that indigenous experts and wildfire ecologist/fire management people doing controlled burns are fundamentally different from chuck from Kansas City not putting out his cigarette properly while camping and burning down Half of the state. The messaging is pretty clearly against the latter.
