I did geology research there and u need a bear horn if ur going off trail

Bug spray, the mosquitos are biting this time of year.

Bear spray can blow back into your own eyes

A gun or bear horn is the best

But with a small gun like a pistol which you would have if ur backpacking never shoot a charging bear because if it’s charging the bullet won’t do much to stop the momentum of the bear and it’ll still get you. A bear horn is also more likely to spook it away.
