As someone actively in the field. It all depends on what you do with your time now. Volunteer, intern, find ways to get your foot in the door. Tons of people will be clamoring for those positions. Especially as so many have been laid off by the administration. You need to find a way to make yourself marketable. If you can do undergrad research get into that! Be apart of related clubs and organizations. Take classes outside of college. Round yourself out as a candidate. But be aware.
This will likely take multiple years to undo- it’ll probably be about 2030 before we get some things back to “normal”. I graduated last spring. I want(ed) to be a national park ranger. Safe to say that’s not happening for a while. I’m big on education/interpretation/community outreach, so I’ve worked at summer camps and local parks. As a forester, private sector is your friend right now unfortunately. See what you can do locally but bear in mind that’s what everyone else is doing right now.
This field pays next to nothing. It is dominated (forest service side at least as you mentioned them) by men and if you are a woman you will face challenges just because of that. I’ve had men look down on me as a woman despite being able to do everything they can and more simply because of my sex. It is extremely toxic as well. It’s all about who you know and how much weight you can throw around. The best people often don’t keep these jobs, it’s those with connections that drive out the good.
Don’t let this discourage you, it’s still possible to be in this field. But especially after this administration stripping protections for so many of our natural resources / lands there is going to be a lot of clean up. But there’s also likely going to be a a lot of big corporations taking over these places.
