I think one of the bigger anxieties for people just getting into the role play aspects of ttrpgs and etc are the fear that what they say to NPCs is final, er go, they want to check with their fellow players before engaging. But with free-telepathy, I saw them talking amongst themselves in character (which rarely happened) AND they were much more confident in speaking to NPCs.
