I’m about to have an 8 mid-level player session where they are attending a ball to kidnap an important NPC’s daughter. Anyone have some fun ideas for things I can throw in?

Daughter is a 7’5 orc. Barbarian. Absolute badass diva

-Secret rooms that have clues or red herrings or maybe even traps -Something to do with the band or DJ maybe a missing instrument that’s throwing off the vibe Good luck with combat; I’d recommend rolling to hit and dmg at once to save time, sucks if they have high dmg and miss tho but oh well

The chef for the ball is a beholder, so if they start a fight, they have to deal with a beholder that can process a fish into sashimi just by looking at it

have the area be warded against dimensional travel don’t tell them in advance

A second group ready to take the person away from them. once they try to move the victim to another location. Think mission impossible here.

Yes, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer mentality. Will kill demons extra viciously because one made her break a nail

I mean, I already had her being a Goliath… originally, I was gonna have her be annoying Valley Girl, but I like the Death Barbarian idea waaaaaay more!

with regards to combat i don’t know your party composition but give your boss the standard list of resistances to bullshit (poison cuz sylune’s viper, teleport against grapplers, LA(s) LR(s), dispel magic if needed, immunity to some of the nastier conditions)

Yesss when facing many players a boss needs resistance n such

Of course! I’ve dmed for as big as 7 (a friend had 10players for a one shot don’t do that) and it can be HARD keeping them in order so being clear and concise helps a lot. You’ve got this!

Oooo, I like that idea! I can’t do full anti magic cause almost the whole party is spell casters (Warlock, Sorcerer, Paladin/Warlock mix, Wizard, Alchemist, Bard, Rouge, Barbarian), but getting rid of teleportation would help.

Why not both?

Can you provide more details? I’d be happy to help with planning an encounter!

Well, I probably won’t have them actually fight a boss, that’ll be for a future session. I am planning on making the daughter around lvl 16-20 cause funny. She will be a barbarian, and there goal is to kidnap her, without pissing her off (e.g. tricking her, putting her to sleep, etc.)

Hey man I appreciate that but you don’t understand what you have done with your other comments. My character relies on dimensional travel. This gonna suck (in a fun way)

this is to prevent the malignant “grab and forcibly teleport” plague among mid level pcs

Hiw about another group kidnap the daughter at the same time as the first group. Dad is distraught and quests the group to free his daughter, giving them equipment and offering a reward. Now the group can choose to continue the original quest once they have the daughter or return her to her father.

Well I was thinking, the second group knows about the first after the daughter. But that first group think they are the only ones.
