That saying actually came from US propaganda. Researchers found a small tribe who ate lots of broccoli, and they amazingly never got colon cancer. So, the US government decided to spread propaganda to get people to eat more broccoli. Then, the researchers realized the reason the tribe never got colon cancer was because most of them died in their 30s and 40s. (Info came from my philosophy professor)
