Tried to pan sear a chuck roast and when I poured olive oil on the skillet, it burst into flames. I just stood and watched it burn for a minute to ponder how dumb I am before putting it out (with less urgency than I should’ve had)

your roast is ruined, but what if you were to purchase fast food and disguise it as your own cooking?

Most commonly used oil would be canola.. but olive oil is a healthier option but yes lower smoke point. I only have my Level One in Professional cooking and have thought of doing a YouTube cooking channel but like who’d watch

My freshman year, someone was cooking next to me in the communal kitchen and his pan caught fire. He was so chill I thought he did it on purpose. He didn’t. He was frozen in fear. So I took his salt and dumped it on top and he was so damn confused why

I was going to say, olive oil really doesn’t do this.

It does when the skillet is too hot (which I now know ofc)

The roast came out perfect luckily! After I put out the fire, I cooled the skillet in cold water and used a different (nonstick) pan with vegetable oil instead. Slow cooked it for 5 hours and it was 👍🏽

I kept getting recommended to do olive oil for pan searing, so I decided to listen to them instead of using vegetable oil (my go-to). And you might want to start on TikTok first then make your way to YouTube as your viewers grow

Hey doofus. A lower flash point means it ignites EASIER. #1 was saying that you shouldn’t use olive oil at high temps because it ignites easier.

Everything was okay👍🏽it took a minute for me to understand that I’m stupid, but I snapped out of it and covered the fire with a pot lid while wearing an oven mitt. Whole apartment was covered in smoke tho
