Can you tell I like cooking with cast iron? It’s either smoked, on cast iron, or both at the same time. (That’s how I did the apple pie.)

I’m assuming that’s the apple pie. From top down I’m assuming scallops, breakfast hash, quesadilla, fried eggs, pie. Then a photo of their cast iron collection.

Apple pie is the correct answer, it’s probably my favorite pie I know how to make :) [you got everything else right as well]

Mhm, I’m embarrassed to admit I only recently discovered the darker scallops (orange) are female.

Don’t worry that’s not embarrassing it’s not a very common fact to know! Did you also know that they’re orange because their roe sacks fill with pigment when they spawn, which leaches into adjacent muscles in the scallop?

You’re formally invited. Ngl I haven’t had anyone to cook for since new years and it’s taken its toll big time.

Roe is another word for fish eggs. So when scallops spawn, or go to breed, their egg sacs fill with an orange antioxidant pigment that protects and provides for the developing eggs. When produced in excess it spills over and stains the scallops surrounding muscle!

The more we know about our food the better. I’m guessing yours is more for ocean biology in general though.
