Yep, the patriarchy hurts men as well. Male mental health is such a huge problem in the U.S. because of the our patriarchal society. A LOT is expected from men, and men aren’t expected to show emotion or complain about their problems, because they need to be strong. That is the patriarchy at work
There’s also the severe lack of a lot of men to talk to women and why so many men find it hard to find a partner. Because for almost all of human history before the last 50-60 years, having an income and a pulse was all you needed to get a wife, since they were dependent on men financially. Today, that’s not true, and women can want other qualities like being attractive, caring, funny, sweet, etc.
^^ That is a good thing, but it’s hard on a lot of men because men have NEVER been expected to possess qualities that attract women before now. It’s why so many young men are confused as to what women like, because before the last few generations, men never needed to care what women found attractive
that’s true, it does focus mainly on female liberation. but we can’t be liberated from the patriarchy until those that uphold and maintain it recognize its abuse, on both women and themselves. of course it’s important to mention that the harms on women are far more severe and urgent, but we also can’t deny how the struggles men deal with (isolation, toxic masculinity, etc.) erupt from this as well.
