Im studying to get a degree criminal psychology and im a bit of a pothead myself lol. A lot of the stigma stems from racism in the early 20th century. It became associated with immigrants and minorities so it kind of snowballed from there. The criminalization of it basically reinforced those ideas so it became a cycle. Stigma as a whole is a very interesting concept in terms of sociology and psychology, you should look into it.

I know right??? It makes no sense. Second hand alcohol exposure puts you at risk of literal physical violence

No one should be going to jail for weed, or have a record for that matter. But I’m sick of stoners saying it’s harmless. It absolutely destroys your personality, emotional attachments, and cognition. You can deny it until you can’t.

because alcohol harms you snd makes more money while weed can be used medically and save people more money. the government hates us and wants our money

Or how about realizing both of them are bad addictions, and that if you absolutely must have the substance to abuse there’s a time and place and that’s away from the public and others.

Facts but i feel like its because the government can control alcohol. You cant regulate weed tbh

The last time the country tried to make alcohol illegal the country erupted, not just a handful of people. Additionally that smells terribly, whereas alcohol has a longer line of history.

It’s literally just because alcohol is pretty much a cultural universal, so outlawing it is impossible, whereas weed has an association with people the American government does not like (Black people and the anti-war left in the 1960s) and isn’t used by literally everyone so it was easier to ban for a long time

Prohibition didn’t work, and the hemp industry threatened the profits of the timber industry so their executives lobbied congress to criminalize weed and pushed public narratives claiming weed made people (specifically African Americans) violent.

There’s reasons it’s illegal but people want to defend it bc they love the high, the same way alcohol used to be illegal but people wanted the drug so bad they got it and now look at us.

Idk why you’re so incensed about the idea of someone drinking or smoking. Becoming an adult means that you get to self-regulate. You get to decide what risks you wanna take and self-moderate. People make different decisions, and you don’t have the moral high ground just because you decide to abstain from everything.

You could say that about steak and fries. Some people have addictions. Those people need help and empathy. Laws aren’t going to fix the root of the problem. The trauma and addiction is the issue, not the substance itself.

not everyone who recreationally uses drugs is addicted. it’s just fun. as long as you’re not being a dick about where you’re smoking or letting yourself get into a state that you hurt someone, who cares.

Its harmfulness really depends on how you’re using it. I have an edible like once a month and have had no change in personality or relationships or cognition. you can abuse anything to the point of serious harm.

That’s true too here in Wisconsin the bars are so powerful they keep weed from being legalized and they also stop alcohol delivery from being legal on doordash and shit all because it increases the likelihood of people drinking at bars. Alcohol isn’t even legal to purchase in stores during prime bar/club hours
