if a show makes a female character pregnant in a situation that doesn't make sense it always feel cheap and gimmicky and like the writer doesn't know how to give women a real plot line

like why is she pregnant when 50 other things that fit into the world and themes of the show could have happened? oh right you have the brain of a manga writer and don't think of women as actual human beings, just tits and wombs

i implore every author to stop urself before making a female character pregnant and ask yourself what purpose this is serving for her character development or the narrative. then ask if she were male, what would you have written to achieve the same effect? if u can't achieve the same effect, then maybe it does make sense to make her pregnant

Nah fr. Especially in dystopian/end of the world movies. U mean to tell me yall raided a pharmacy & not ONE woman thought to grab birth control or condoms???? Or raid a sex shop for spermicide or those female condoms?? Pls be so fr!

the defense is always oh but it's realistic bc accidents happen. ok but all the main characters have plot armor so she can't have plot protection? it's just lazy writing 70% of the time

to me it's the same as making characters faint every few scenes like is this fucking wattpad. put down the pen and leave the writers room immediately

A lot of times for shows it’s cause the actor got pregnant obviously not all of them but that is one case and what would you rather they do just cut the character or hold off on the show

yeah maybe that's the case in a soap opera, but i'm talking about actual shows with plots (and other media too where that's not a concern at all like animated shows, cartoons, manga, and novels).
