This was like the smallest reason but one reason why I had to stop talking to this white boy I was dating is because he said he would need help putting sunscreen on his back in the summer and I literally just am not fucking doing that lmao

I’m white and have been severely sunburnt numerous times and I refuse to wear sunscreen for my entire life and I’m planning on dying of a preventable illness like skin cancer

Sure in theory everyone should. In reality white people have a 30x higher chance of developing melanoma and most Black ppl don't wear sunscreen ever lol. No one in my family has ever been sunburnt. I'm doing fine

But I’m assuming you’re dating somebody you’re in love with (just trying to understand the situation, please correct me if I’m wrong) wouldn’t want to do the little things like that to help him out?

I'm not suddenly in love with someone just because we started going on dates lol

But you at least care about the person, would you not want to help?

There’s obviously other reasons at play and the sunscreen is probably irrelevant

What does dating mean to you?

Me personally? Because of my beliefs and values I don’t date someone just to date someone, I’m dating someone to marry them. So little stuff like this matters, because I’m looking to spend my life with my current partner.

I mean sure but this mindset works if you only date people you already know lol I can be dating with the mindset of finding the person I'll marry but I still have to find them first. The first part of dating is getting to know the person and deciding if you would want something long term with them specifically. if I wouldn't even wanna help you put on sunscreen, clearly I don't like you that much. Hence us no longer dating
