I think it goes into the reputation of the dog/what people EXPECT the dog to be like. The pitbull has a more intimidating reputation therefore men are more drawn to it for appearance alone. On the opposite end, the chihuahua is more small and cutsie, therefore women are more drawn to it for its appearance alone. But when men go for chihuahuas or women go for pitbulls, it feels like it’s more than just for aesthetic reasons.

Of course, not saying that this applies to ALL people. It’s just what I’ve noticed with feminine type breeds vs masculine type breeds.

Not that dog breeds have a specific gender lol. I have a massive pure black shepherd and everyone assumes she’s a boy, but really she just a pretty big gurl.

Either that or a Newfoundland is on my list. Then I can look like I’m walking a bear. Even if it’s a teddy, still gives a creep pause because of size.
