Or profoundly religious experiences of a similar ilk. Maybe it can even play a role in explaining that whole observer effect in quantum mechanics where a conscious observer seems to play some role in collapsing the wave function.

I think we have souls that survive after death personally. I’ve heard far too many personal anecdotes of stuff like that to dismiss or lead me to believe otherwise. It’s difficult for me not to think so. But even if that weren’t the case, I don’t think nothingness or sleep after we die sound that bad. It doesn’t seem like it would be all that awful. It would be just like sleeping and that’s nice or neutral at least
