My bf & I have been together 2.5 yrs & our parents haven’t met yet. I love my mom but she’s a functioning alcoholic, not socially aware at times & is a dishwasher. I feel embarrassed for them to meet her at times since they’re so well rounded.

Have you talked to him, he can let his family know about her and when they do meet hopefully they can be supportive of you. Your mom clearly isn’t perfect, but it’s not like you got a choice in who she is. They will get it if they’re really well rounded

If you’re close with his parents, you can try having an open conversation about it. They understand, they have friends/family who they might also have been hesitant to meet or introduce, and they also would understand why it would feel scary, embarrassing, or challenging to navigate.

I know no amount of conversations really change mom (I had an alcoholic mother for years) so the responsibility or damage control falls on you in soooo many social interactions. Sometimes it’s easier to explain before than after
