Most of my classmates can’t use proper grammar in discussion posts. Those same students always need extensive clarification for simple instructions. I wish profs would stop passing them. Those idiots bring down the reputation of our school & degrees.

It also pisses me off because why tf am I getting an A for a well written assignment and another student getting a B for something a third grader could’ve written?? Might as well use chatgpt since effort and high quality is basically worth the same as absolute shite. But I really blame the teachers that let those students graduate high school. They can barely read yet think they’re going to pass enough classes to get a bachelors.

the literacy & reading comprehension crisis is a legitimate concern, but looking down on your classmates for requesting clarification is just pointlessly judgmental. as for the “proper grammar” part, please look into the “prescriptive vs descriptive” model of grammar. if they’re transmitting meaning with the words they’ve chosen, that meets the criteria for proper descriptive grammar. expecting prescriptive grammar in discussion posts is nothing more than elitism

If the professor says: “your essay needs to be 700 words minimum and the topic needs to be from the approved list.” But then you have to listen to multiple students waste time asking “so it has to be at least 700 words” “so we can’t write about [topic not on list]?” You would realize that they’re idiots. It’s not like they’re asking reasonable stuff. They ask things that have already been said in class, posted on the rubric & attached in the module. They’re just dumb asf tbh.

And no I mean if they want to say “The dog barked, then ran towards the brown squirrel”. They will type “the barking dog ran to tree with the squirrel” The issue is the grammar. Not capitalizing words correctly is something they should’ve learned in elementary school. Leaving out the/and/is/or/for/with is all ridiculous mistakes to be making as a college student. If you think that’s acceptable then that’s you but I find it to be ridiculous.

some people have actual learning disabilities. others have mental conditions which cause them to worry excessively, far beyond what would make sense to you or I, about whether or not they’re appropriately following instructions. flatly dismissing your peers as “idiots” because of this doesn’t speak to a superior intellect on your part, just a refusal to consider that other people deal with different setbacks than you do

And honestly scary because wtf were they doing for the last 12 years? And how are they going to be able to function as adults? It’s one thing to skip over the terms & agreements in an app, but it’s another to be unable to understand contracts like when purchasing a car or getting a loan or mortgage or even signing up for healthcare/health insurance.

There’s no way 70% of a random class is disabled and if they are then that’s an even bigger concern. Lmao just keep your excuses to yourself. I hope one of them ends up as your coworker one day so that you can see exactly what I’m talking about.

your other reply communicates to me that you didn’t comprehend what I said about prescriptive vs descriptive grammar Or take a second to google it before replying. you’re allowed to find my perspective ridiculous, but you should at least do your best to understand that there’s a well-established & academically-backed precedent for “proper grammar” being substantially less strict of a guideline than the one you’re pushing

Like I said, keep making excuses idrc. Stupid is as stupid does. Go join them since you think they’re so smart. Hire them to do your taxes, provide your healthcare, schedule your important appointments, teach your poor children, etc. Maybe enough fuck ups will wake you up, maybe you’re like them & will blame anything else other than blatant stupidity. That’s your problem to deal with.✌️
