This is maybe the most random question but like if I was given a credit card but never had a reason to use it and only use cash, does that mean I have like bad credit since I don’t use it? And should I start using it?

I only ask bc I hear that you and your partner need good credit when it comes to buying houses, I don’t wanna ruin me and my boyfriends chance by simply not using the card

I don’t think so. As far as I know you only get bad credit from not paying off debt, whether it be credit card debt or a medical bill or whatever. Just keeping the card and not using it for anything doesn’t hurt your credit. But using it and paying off the balance on time can help you build good credit.

Generally, as long as you’re below 30% utilization on your card it helps your credit. Additionally, some cards can you give advantages like cash back or points towards stuff like a vacation.

I treat credit cards like a debit card and only spend what I can afford to immediately pay off. I have my credit cards set to auto pay and I get anywhere from 2-5% cash back on most of my purchases which adds up overtime.

AI is pretty decent at financial advice btw, but I would say to use your card a little bit because they might close the account if there’s 0 activity for several months

I’m in a similar situation, went apartment hunting with my gf for the first time. I didn’t have bad credit, but I also didn’t have ANY credit. If you have no credit history you don’t have a credit score at all. But you may have one even without having used your credit card, especially if you have student loans. You can check your credit score (if you have one) online for free on a few different sites. Experian for example, or Credit Karma or Chime.
