Usually when women say this it’s about men’s physical preferences. I’ll defer that societal expectations of beauty can be harsh. However, using societal pressures to state that the majority of men genuinely dislike womens natural physical characteristics, at least compared to how women perceive men physically, seems just outright false.

To remain consistent in your beliefs, you either are mad at men for not liking how you look, or are okay with that and also dislike how men generally look. It would be hypocritical to think both at the same time; if you’re going to hate on the way men look/are, don’t hate on men for doing the same to women. If you’re not okay with bashing the opposite sex, then don’t do it yourself.

i don’t think that was the topic to begin tho, i believe it was how men think all women find them ugly, not comparing the genders of better looks. the attractiveness of a person isn’t just in outside standard but the things they can provide and show partnership in, most men don’t want to do that. they don’t find partnership in their relationships, most find more of a control and that plays into the ugliness of a man

Good points but this post is moreso referencing women who respond to men voicing their physical preferences (albeit sometimes but not always unrealistic ones) by angrily saying ā€œdo men even like women?ā€ while then also calling the vast majority of men physically ugly compared to women. maybe it comes down to how the different genders hold themselves, it is more appealing and attractive to watch a women with grace walk past, whereas it’s not appealing to watch a man catcall that woman on the street, one holds with elegance whilst other holds with lust so i guess my point of view is now both genders hold elegance and lust, but in my eyes i guess i believe men show the lust more and women show more of the elegance

And again, the point of this post is not to ask why women don’t like men. It’s to point out that women generally dislike men MUCH more than the general population of men dislikes women; yet, women always say ā€œdo men even like women?ā€ in such a way that insinuates that they believe that the dynamic exists the other way around.

Woman say ā€œdo men even like womanā€ not as a reference to physical attraction. Maybe I should word what this post is trying to say and what my point is a bit better: Often times I see posts where women respond to men’s physical preferences with ā€œdo men even like womenā€. If they say that about how societally some men treat women horribly (SA, etc) then I was not referring to that. I was simply referring to men’s physical preferences. I included ā€œmen are uglyā€ because women will also then say that most men are physically uglier than most women. Again, physical preferences

I feel like this post articulates what I mean because I was simply responding to women calling most men physically unattractive, meanwhile that question they ask is often in response to a perception that men don’t find women physically attractive.

Also if we go based on this. Societal standards woman are expected much more with looks than men. Litterally like 10x. So doesn’t it make sense that woman are more attractive?? They put sm more work into their appearance, not bc they want to but bc they are expected to and only receive ā€œrespectā€ if so. While a man can not, and nothing happens. Does this not click how statistically woman r gonna find men less attractive if they put no work in themselves, while males are gonna find woman more 1/2

There are two things that I’d like to say in response to that: My first point is, if we assume that more women are more attractive than men, and we can agree that men find more women attractive, then why ask the question ā€œdo men even like womenā€ (strictly with regards to physical appearance) when we know based on those assumptions that they obviously do?

upvote -1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #5 22h

My second point addresses the other possibility: even ignoring women doing work on their appearance, they are still generally more selective. Don’t women often say they do their nails, makeup, lashes, hair, etc for themselves? Men often say they like a look that is closer to natural and women refute ā€œwe do it for ourselves, not youā€. Sure societal standards exist, but men would be less selective than women regardless

Anonymous replying to -> #5 22h

We may disagree on whether women being attracted to less men than men to women is due to an inherent nature of us or societal standards making women more beautiful. I would argue the former because I and many other guys from my experience that take care of our hygiene, bodies, hair, and health relatively well struggle with attracting women. But we can agree to disagree and that still leads to the next point: Granting either explanation, men find more women attractive. The whole point of the 1/2

post was to point out the hypocrisy in saying ā€œdo men even like womenā€ (again only with regards to physical appearance) when women seem to be attracted to way less men physically. It’s okay to have your physical preferences, but my point was don’t pretend that yours are more valid, or that you have less. You know what I mean? 2/2

i'm going to be honest, i have personally rarely seen women expressing the sentiment you're talking about in regards to men's physical preferences in women. i often see it being expressed in terms of how men talk about socializing with women, which is to say, they often say and act like they'd much rather prefer to socialize with other men (to put it very lightly/generously).

Anonymous replying to -> #3 21h

i'm trying to think of if/when i've seen women talking about male preferences...the discussions i think about are when men call a woman--who like, would usually be considered attractive--"ugly" based on something like, i don't know. weight for example. like you'll have a very curvy woman, but because she appears arbitrarily "fat," you'll see some men say she's ugly and overweight

Anonymous replying to -> #3 21h

the other times when i think of something like this happening is when it comes to female characters in video games. take aphrodite from hades, for example--she's sort of like. blatantly designed to be physically attractive in a mostly conventional sense, right? but you had some men looking at her facial features and deeming them too masculine for them, going as far as to make edits depicting her unrealistically slim and making her look even more feminine

Anonymous replying to -> #3 21h

and we see this particular type of thing quite often. i think the recent cycle was with the fucking. god of war's wife? where a bunch of men were calling her ugly and expecting her to look like some kind of supermodel, meanwhile, she just looks like a woman in her 40s or something. so that kind of thing is a small part of why women ask if men are even actually (physically or otherwise) attracted to women. REAL women. because they always seem to want a fantasy version of a woman.

sure i don't doubt men are generally attracted to real actual feminine bodies and stuff. but they sure are weird about it, and very conditional about what they seem to like or even be able to appreciate. i think especially the latter one is rhe important distinction. because it's more than okay to not be attracted to everyone/everything. but you can at least appreciate people for how they are, and it shouldn't then dictate how you treat people outright...

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #3 21h

so you go back to the video games thing and like, how many different types of male body types are represented in them? and how often do you see women kicking up a fuss about the men maybe not being suited to their needs? but with men it's like, if they don't find the female protagonist or other female characters attractive, all of a sudden they can't play the game at all, and it's some woke culture war bullshit or whatever.

in terms of this idea of hypocrisy i think it only appears hypocritical if and when you take the question "do men even like women" to mean it as you have interpreted it and keep trying to interpret it--concerning physical appearance--despite now several people telling you it has to do with an entirely different thing. "are men even physically/sexually attracted to women?" of course they are, and no one is going to dispute that
