when you prioritize your wife, you prioritize your marriage. children, along with all other things can put a strain on marriages and in order to ensure your children grow up with a stable childhood with two loving parents, you want to make sure you’re keeping the romance alive and caring for your wife. your kids will see that and carry that along with them for the rest of their lives

Nope Mom, wife, daughter. Mom won’t divorce you to take half your stuff and break up a family.

Shouldn’t you prioritize the one you choose to build a life and home together with though?

got that completely backwards, Daughter, Wife, Mom

They’re all given priority over everyone else (in their specific differing ways), but the day one who gave me life and a home in the first place deserves to be recognized accordingly for that. People can get married and divorced, I’ll only ever have one mother. And my mom would want me to treat my wife well, so if I do that it’s me giving priority to her too

Fair enough. I can respect a different way of looking at it

can u imagine prioritizing your mother over your own wife and daughter. your mother has her husband, your farther. your wife is your one-flesh union that you guys created life with. she comes first. then the baby you guys created together, then your mother

Kids will try pitting parents against eachother sometimes, lmao ik bc I did it when I used to be an annoying little brat my mom had to deal with. I’ll be in a unified front w my wife and back her up (as long as it isn’t something genuinely insane)

Maybe not pitting against so much as use one parents words to get around the decision of another

One flesh union? Tf? No my wife and I would be our own individuals in a union of love and respect. I just wouldn’t marry someone that thinks putting my mom doesn’t come first. I’d want her to put her own mom first too. Yeah if it comes down to it and a pregnancy is too dangerous I’m choosing my wife, as I would want my dad to do if it were the case when my mom was pregnant with me if it came down to that

Maybe this is just a difference in how we view marriage. To myself, and it also sounds like to OP to some extent, it’s not just a legal union for two people. Marrying someone means committing to forging a life together, and becoming a single unit from two people. It’s literally your life partner, your other half. That takes precedence over anyone else imo. My parents always told me growing up that the most important relationship in every person’s life is their significant other

yes!!! my partner is more than just someone who signed a legally binding agreement to stay w me. you r someone that i plan to love, someone whom i plan to be an united front with. you’re more than just a contract. and our daughter? we created life together. i’m gonna focus on protecting my marriage to give my daughter the best example of what love can look like

I agree on the whole single family unit life partner thing. But say my mom gets old where she needs help and my dad passes away, but my wife doesn’t want her in our house for some reason (I’d never marry someone I’d think was like that) well then then I’m taking care of the woman who took care of me, we can find a way to work through my wife’s concerns but I wouldn’t want my mom in some elderly care home alone. That’s me directly prioritizing my mother over my wife’s opinion

you can still take care of your mother and work out a way to where you and your wife can have a system going. just make sure you don’t neglect your wife and your daughter’s needs

Well yeah ofc, I’m saying all of this in mind of that. My mom would be pissed off at me if i neglected my wife and children too, it’s not the way I was raised to even consider something like that. It’s be my duty as a son, husband, and father to make sure they aren’t neglected
