
especially I wish everyone was taught the difference between affective and cognitive empathy a lot of people who don’t organically experience affective empathy (i.e. immediately intuitively reacting with how you might feel in another’s position) as a reflex can still learn the cognitive type (mentally walking yourself through what that might feel like) quite effectively
partly because cognitive empathy is an important skillset, partly because I think most people would be way less eager to vilify the neurodivergent & mentally ill on the basis of “empathy deficiency”. cause that “deficiency” is almost always just an issue with the affective kind, it doesn’t actually make them incapable of All empathy
