I’m tired of people using autism as an excuse and scapegoat. Autism is a real thing you are not allowed to use it to excuse your idiotic behavior

As someone with autism, I second this. We do not claim Elon OR any of the neurotypicals who only claim it when they make a mistake/want to seem “quirky”.

i feel like it depends on what they mean bc if we’re talking about elon yeah ofc but i’ve seen people say this about an autistic person genuinely misunderstanding something get berated for “playing dumb”

I’m talking about people who use autism as an out for when their inappropriate behavior is confronted. For example, this one time a group of guys were calling a stranger a bitch just because, just because they thought it was funny and ok to call a random stranger a bitch. She called them out and said that wasn’t ok. They’re excuse was they all had autism. That is not ok, you were being assholes. You got put in your place and froze because you’ve never been corrected. That is not autism

Oh no I specifically mean the type who goes around doing things that are normal and being like “I’m so autistic hehe” and saying things that are actively harmful to the community while treating it like an accessory. I have no issue with those who are undiagnosed, are high masking, or talk about how they experience things differently. In most cases I’ll give a person the benefit of the doubt, I just don’t like the fetishization and romanticization that’s been happening.
