Hot take: not all things need to be inclusive especially when it comes to culture. BUT non cultural things shouldn’t be exclusive ( idk if that makes sense fully or not)

too vague to be coherent imo, better to just specify the thing that prompted this post

Exclusive is a mindset just to make people uncomfortable with your presence. We only live once

I’m a black women and I feel our culturally significant history and current practices are becoming openly enjoyed by non black individuals who don’t truly understand the history who are watering down the meaning but when we attempt to close the practice or say “hey don’t do that” the immediate response is negative or “you guys also do things created by other cultures”

ohhh I hear you, thanks for clarifying. yeah, it makes sense that some aspects of black women’s culture ought to be off-limits for people outside that demographic like… especially when it’s white people feeling comfortable casually taking black cultural practices & aesthetic signifiers for ourselves, I see how that fits into a broader historical-and-ongoing pattern of white entitlement. a pattern that links together all kinds of heinous shit all the way up to colonialism and enslavement

also. if other people automatically knew what your post was about, then maybe it only flew over my head cause my own relationship to culture is kinda shallow / naive 💀 it’s that thing where being a white American whose family has lived here for several generations = my culture is the one that’s “dominant” here = I’m like a fish who isn’t aware of the water he swims in
