My bf is white and I know he means well, but if I have to hear him get upset about some new racial injustice as though there isn’t a new one every day, I’m going to scream. Like, let me not be black for 5 seconds, please. Tell me some good news! Damn!

I genuinely just don’t think about it, I’ve never thought about race unless someone else brings it up or something inconsiderate is happening in real time

It’s not bad per se. It’s just that obviously racial issues matter. There’s no way to not talk about these things. I just get exhausted sometimes. As a black woman, the issues are always in my periphery. Sometimes, I just don’t feel like looking at them. Meanwhile, he is constantly showing me that it’s outrageous and forcing me to acknowledge everything all the time.

That makes sense. Yeah I think I would agree that like it’s ok to acknowledge them, but it doesn’t need to be reiterated. It’s about as obvious as saying I’m a dude and she’s a girl. But like if I kept bringing it up that she’s a girl, that would be kinda awkward. She’s my best friend and lover :)
