Theatre etiquette is gone. I went to a broadway show a few weeks ago, I haven’t been since before Covid. Tell me why there were people talking the entire time? People were on their phones and everything. Weird asf and sad

You are not supposed to wear blue jeans of any kind and you are supposed to wear something more formal

Hell I saw a man wearing white tie to cabaret in London now that’s theatre etiquette

No they aren’t they are not nice enough for theatre if you are to wear jeans you must wear white

My mom was pretty upset about peoples attire as well. One thing that bothered me a lot was the eating, why is food and drink allowed? Why am I constantly hearing the wrinkling of a popcorn bag. For sure ruins the magic of the theatre

Anonymous replying to -> #2 1d

Oh for that I think it’s alright because people by food at the theatre and they do get hungry I think that might be a little extreme and I’m not talking about movie theatres I’m talking about theatre theatres

Than* and that’s a waste of money first off and second off idk how you care about it at all

Anonymous replying to -> lightbluehater 1d

It’s not a waste of money! You should know you make good outfits! And second of all I care because I was brought up in a family that respected etiquette

upvote 1 downvote
🧲
Anonymous replying to -> OP 1d

Etiquette is not being distracting and watching the show it has nothing to do with what you wear, fundamentally. And it is a waste of money because they’re never going to wear the shitty poorly fitting clothes ever again

Anonymous replying to -> lightbluehater 1d

Etiquette includes dress code. They actually will wear them again! It’s super easy because people go to events where they have to dress up all the time!

upvote 1 downvote
🧲
Anonymous replying to -> OP 1d

Yeah and for people who wear jeans as their dress up, they can wear jeans to every other place

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 1d

It’s not fucking hard and you don’t need to keep buying new clothing for it

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> lightbluehater 1d

It’s not respectful for the theatre they shouldn’t disgrace it like that I will die on this hill

🧲
Anonymous replying to -> OP 1d

Disgrace it??? This is the most elitist conversation I’ve ever had in my entire life wtf

So I am? I literally said broadway😭 Growing up food and drink was not allowed inside the auditorium, I think it should still be that way. most shows are under 3 hours, get a meal before or after or a snack during intermission🤷🏽‍♀️

It’s not elitist because people probably already have atleast one nice outfit just wear it

Theatre etiquette is an artifact from the bourgeoisie in France keeping the working class out of their recreations so I think any reasonable non-degenerate wouldn’t care how someone is dressed so long as it’s not distracting when you’re not even supposed to be looking at them in the first place

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> lightbluehater 1d

And it’s evolved into being respectful of the theatre and people in the working class are able to afford nice enough outfits now so it’s not hard to respect the rules

🧲
Anonymous replying to -> OP 1d

“Respectful of the theatre” means don’t smell

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> lightbluehater 1d

Respectful of the theatre means dress up to respect it and also respect others around you and the actors

upvote 0 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 1d

There are many aspects to respecting the theatre not just the smell of a person

upvote 0 downvote
🧲
Anonymous replying to -> OP 1d

Yeah by not smelling; just because a rule is “easy to follow” doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a real reason for the rule to exist

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> lightbluehater 1d

There is a real reason for the rule to exist and it must be followed

There are many aspects to etiquette all of them must be followed 🙄
