If you look at nature, the chihuahua draws such parallels you speak OP. The chihuahua is very muscular for its size because it needs to have a chance to survive like a bigger dog. It’s loud so others know it’s there. Its temper is for its survival as well. Basically smaller animals have to honk their horn more to be seen and be more muscular.
