as much as i understand the “if it doesn’t apply to you it’s not about you” thing, i rlly do think generalizations (specifically gender, race, etc) are nothing but harmful
there’s a stark difference between someone making a generalization about a group of people who holds structural power over them -vs- someone making a generalization about an oppressed demographic

i almost feel like both end up being harmful in the long run though?

even if that were true, the extent of the harm wouldn’t be comparable

i think it’s unfair to try and compare harm instead of acknowledging that it both causes harm? it feels backwards to try and make it a competition on who it hurts most

I didn’t say “one is more harmful than the other”, I said that the scale of the harm is so drastically different that they are literally incomparable, as in there’s no comparison to be made between the two. not “competition”, two entirely separate conversations

separate conversations that still fall under the idea of generalizations cause harm

harm that isn’t comparable in scale. how long you wanna keep talking in circles?

i agree that it isn’t comparable and shouldn’t even be attempted to compare, and generalizations cause harm, i wasn’t really mentioning on what scale is it harmful to who, more of just that it is harmful
