This Netflix WB Paramount shit is so stressful as someone currently working on a new Netflix show and having just finished working on a show for WB. No matter what happens, I promise you, literally everyone loses in this situation. Workers AND consumers.

Not if you’re a shareholder in both

Regular, everyday people lose because of this. More massive, corporate consolidation only makes less options for the public, discourages innovation from the companies’ ends, leads to layoffs, and one less studio for people to work at.

We exist in a capitalist society whether we like it or not. The stock market is the best determination of public sentiment, and it appears like the sentiment is that this is good. People can get new jobs, they shouldn’t be treated as these “sacred” things that are irrevocable

Brother, the only ones who truly can move markets are institutions and market makers. It is not at all an accurate reflection of the public’s desires. It is almost entirely big players positioning themselves to profit off of moves up and down. Everyone else is simply along for the ride. The sentiment is not that “this is good,” it is that those at the top have decided this is profitable for them. There are anti-trust laws that are designed to prevent *this exact situation*, but they aren’t used.

The anti-trust laws conveniently aren’t being enacted despite this being the exact thing they were designed to prevent because enacting them would go against what those with power have decided that they want to do.

Why are they moving markets? They wouldn’t look to buy into these companies ahead of a transaction if they didn’t see positive value. If anything, those insiders are indicating that the consolidated entity is going to do better than the companies independently

It’s all market manipulation. Just look at the stock price chart of WBD. It has been bottomed out for nearly 3 years, but it has shown signs of accumulation. How convenient is it that right after it puts in a high timeframe accumulation, the share price goes up nearly 200% in just a few months? And I’ve worked for WB, so I’m invested in it myself, but it is so clearly all manipulation. No matter who buys the company (Netflix, Paramount) the market makers who positioned themselves win big.
