I’ll never understand having kids just to raise them in poverty. You can’t afford to feed them. You’re moving them from state to state. You’re neglecting their health. You can’t afford to put them in sports, clubs, etc. You’re the reason they’re behind.

I’ll never understand having kids, period

i grew up poor with 3 siblings and every single one of us was an accident. my mom didn't even know she was pregnant with me till a week or two before she was in the third trimester. poor people generally aren't maliciously choosing to have poor kids. i mourn the childhood i could've had and i've dealt with having different lives than my friends, but it's disingenuous to act like it's inherently abusive to have a child while poor

yeah, i don’t understand why my mom took the path that she chose. only 2/5 of her kids became productive members of society. it was really a setback and there could have been so many more opportunities for us.

exactly why would you bring someone into the world knowing you cannot support them. i’m not against having kids, but at least wait until you’re financially stable if it’s a planned parenthood

This is exactly why I found a great family who were mentally, emotionally, and financially prepared for a child to adopt my daughter. We keep in touch and seeing how happy she is leaves me with 0 regrets in making that choice

Yeah, these people have never worked a hard day in their life and somehow have the audacity to say that people who struggle shouldn't have families LOL.

What do you think people did before society existed? They just spawned in cheeseburgers and played soccer with logs? You’re deadass so privileged that you can’t imagine a world without organic matcha carrots and sports leagues

1. having kids is inherently selfish and there’s no real justification for it, but 2. imagine a world of only people who grew up rich 🤮🤮

also we were in poverty but it was NOT as bad as it could have been. it’s so much harder for other people to

Yes headass. Do you know how rare it was for a child to make it past the age of 6 in the past?

what does a child not making it past 6 before society existed have to do with anything? this is about having kids when you cannot afford to raise them well in current times

So by your logic, it was wrong for people in the past to have kids right? Because they couldn’t possibly raise them with the same standards your asking kids today to be raised with

Might as well tell people that since their lives are so miserable and they shouldn't a family, they should just off themselves

Or you can just expect them to work themselves to death building everything you see and maintaining society.

I mean, it’s a complex topic which calls for a lot of nuance in order to avoid skewing into unwarranted classism or even eugenicist territory but I think it’s similarly unwarranted to talk like everyone who agrees with the OP has “never worked a hard day in their life”, when they could’ve easily just come to that conclusion based on their own experiences with growing up in poverty

do i think my mom should've had me? no. and she didn't want kids because she didn't want to bring kids into a fucked up world. but she cared for us and loved us and we had enough support to grow up.

Also, why would anyone share a x-claim off a personal anecdote. If they have come to the conclusion that their life in poverty is difficult, that doesn't justify the statement that poor people shouldn't have kids, and its obviously wrong of them to do that

Because it's a basic right? If you told poor people that they couldn't have kids, how do you think that would go?

My friend was homeless from age 3, with his dad literally eating out of the trash, and he is genuinely one of the happiest people. He doesn't even complain about his childhood, and he has a six-figure job right now.

jumping all the way to suicide-baiting when met with mild criticism isn’t an attitude I respect enough to dignify with a patient & carefully-worded reply if you wanted to be taken seriously or to change someone else’s mind then you could’ve challenged OP’s take without resorting to belligerence

Yeah, if you have a broken or unstable home, you shouldn't have kids, but those aren't always going to be the poor homes.

as if “oh yeah? well if you’re traumatized and unhappy then why are you still alive, huh?” isn’t itself an extremely obvious logical failure… if you cared about the point you were ostensibly trying to make, you would have done so without making light of suicide

Give me one reason to have a child that isn’t based on YOUR own desire for a child. Just cuz it’s selfish doesn’t make it wrong, but it is selfish
