no, I act like they can choose not to sign their souls away to the military in the first place

once people stop signing up, there will be drafts. also, people don’t have choices. sometimes people have to for citizenships, or getting away from abusive families. there is much more to “i choose to do this for fun”

the military provides a house, food and water. are you willing to do that for people with hardships? the military also gives them insurance on life and health for them and their family. are you willing to do that for people? the military also gives their children easier chances at life with better acceptance into college. they fight for your country to make sure you aren’t the one being invaded. yes it sucks and our president isn’t doing the right thing. but you cannot blame those who serve.

I can and i will. I have no sympathy for someone who decides advancing the suffering of other nations is an acceptable sacrifice for them to better their life. There’s a reason it’s touted as the solution to a litany of societal woes our country could improve for its citizens if we put a quarter of our military spending towards healthcare, education, housing

also, if u leave the military before your contract, you go to jail/prison for fleeing, it’s called going AWOL.

so when people criticize the individuals who enlist then you wanna divert to systemic consequences by way of mentioning a draft as inevitability, but when people try to point to systemic issues that could be improved for Everyone instead of funding the military, then suddenly for some reason you want an individual to take that on… interesting

it’s just patently deranged that you’d attempt to dodge ethical criticism of the military by trying to demand systemic benefits be sourced By the individuals levying those criticisms. instead of like, questioning whether maybe the government ought to be providing for its citizens’ basic needs in general, rather than offering them as a consolation prize for participating in the imperialism machine. you aren’t thinking critically, just being a mouthpiece for propaganda
