My mother is cognitively declining and I hate she remembers more about the faith she converted to two years ago than her own daughter. I want to spend time with her while she’s still ‘her’ but she only applies herself to it. I feel terrible.

What’d she convert to?

Mormonism. But she sees the Book of Mormon as more of fables and symbolism, like she doesn’t think the golden plates were real. So she’s not a ‘true’ Mormon but she goes to a Mormon church.

That’s interesting ngl. I’m sorry you’re having to go through this with her, I wish you both well. Maybe she’s not “her” but you are seeing different parts of her, and the love is for her not really her memory of you. I hope your pain subsides and the time you guys have left together is good in its own way inspite of it all
