Man this is how it was with friends I’ve cut off and complaining about my dad. My parents are very wealthy and I grew up with everything I needed, except my dad has always been financially, emotionally, and sometimes physically abusive. I’d get called ungrateful for wishing away wealth in exchange for emotional stability :/

Just know your complaints are valid OP. This is what they mean when they say money can’t buy happiness.

Yes exactly thank you. I dont want expensive jewlery when it has no emotional connection to it. I just want a grandmother who wants to spend time with me and cares about my life

Right! And idk about you, but my dad always uses money and things as a bargaining chip. He bought me a brand new car as a “gift”, then threatened to make me pay for it when I wanted to take a gap year between undergrad and law school. I love the car but I’d rather not live with that anxiety and do what I feel is best for me instead

Mine doesnt do that to the same degree but she makes you feel like you owe her and you always have to act perfect or she will take it back. I dont even want the stuff i just take it to make her happy

Ugh yeah I get that 100%. It’s so frustrating. There are so many ways to give gifts to people without placing any expectations of returning that favor on them
