room temperature pseudo-puritanical take. most mainstream popular fiction still centers male characters and men’s narratives, and it’s not a worse thing for straight women to consume gay narratives rather than the M/F kind. being attracted to those characters doesn’t necessarily equal fetishization when they’re gonna be attracted to men regardless
when men fetishize lesbians, that necessarily also includes an element of gendered power, i.e. misogyny—lesbophobia is a unique bigotry insofar as it exists at the intersection of both misogyny and homophobia, it can’t be separated into Just one or the other. women are however incapable of perpetrating lesbophobia or misogyny against cis men. so no, it’s really not the same
This is the reason as a straight woman i prefer gay media. Men always have a soul in written media. The reason why is because the female characters always resemble nothing of how a woman actually acts in real life. Even when written by women I find them to be written extremely insufferable and they are just written for a man regardless at the end of the day when it comes to romance. Also a lot of the spicy scenes are violent imo and are very heavy on dominant men
And the heavy dom man and very submissive meek woman thing really triggers a lot as a survivor of sa. I think also alot of straight women are acting the same way they do when watching bridgerton. Me and my mom watch that show together and we hoot and holler over the coulples the same way my friends do when talking about the show together
yeah, I think instances of actual fetishization are in the minority when it comes to women choosing to engage with gay male narratives. cause scholarly research concerning mediums like slash fanfiction and BL indicates that a lot of female fans project themselves on one of the characters in M/M pairings—as opposed to approaching the pair from a voyeuristic third person perspective—, primarily for reasons along the lines of what you’ve expressed
ive only ever seen this reaction from women who actively fetishize gay men and try to make excuses for it. regardless of societal impact and who has power, fetishizing others’ homosexual relationships is weird as shit. both don’t have the same impact but they’re still weird as fuck and you’re actively trying to justify it
presumptuous much? I’m not trying to justify fetishization, you’re projecting your own biases onto my words And who I am. I just said it’s not exactly the same thing because gendered power structures further complicate the fetishization of lesbians. if you read any of my other comments throughout this thread you’ll notice that I’m talking about women’s relationships to gay male fictional narrative *outside of* fetishization rather than making excuses for actual objectification
if you’re not trying to justify fetishization why comment all these paragraphs on a post explicitly about fetishization unless you want to sound academic and use as many buzzwords as possible while making it seem more “okay” to fetishize gay men than gay women when neither are okay? you had no need to because that’s not what the post is about, you just wanted to add something tangential and defensive to feel better about your bakudeku fanfiction addiction or whatever it is you do
right, because the only imaginable reason for someone to reply to another person’s comment or chime in with a particular nuance in mind must be a guilty sexual conscience 💀 interesting! not sure what buzzwords you’re referring to but this ongoing crashout over my input feels a little excessive
no, gay men being fetishized is Not more relevant to you than it is to me if you’re a gay woman 😭 and you’re getting this upset with me because I brought up the nuance of lesbophobia???? you were saying As A Gay Woman that me referencing lesbophobia was evidence of me fetishizing gay men? whew, that is a Lot to process well, good luck with whatever you’re dealing with in real life that put you in a mood to pick a fight with an internet stranger, hope that gets resolved soon
