and this statement literally just perpetuates and further normalizes the fact that society should just be okay with men being hyper sexual and view women as nothing more than sex objects. seeing how a man’s brain works, THANK GOD i am a lesbian, yet that still doesn’t protect me from the constant catcalling and sexual harassment i receive from the lesser gender (males).
My og comment was a hot take, now I wanna play devils advocate cause I’m interested in what you think about this. The idea of 18=adult is in of itself a social construct, whereas biologically you start developing into an adult around mid teens and finish becoming a fully formed adult in mid-20s. So why do u specifically choose 18?
My boyfriend used to brag about a woman that was his mother’s friend, she watched him grow up groomed him and then once he turned 18, she initiated a sexual relationship with him. He used to think it’s cool, but I was told him no baby you were a victim. It makes me so sad how that’s normalized.
I chose 18 because that is the legal age of consent in the United States. I do still think it is wrong for older adults get with a young adult like a 30yo going after an 18-19yo. Even though it is legal it’s just weird especially because they would be in completely different stages of life.
Honestly it’s way too easy to pile in on OPs take. Arguing for equal treatment is the surface level takeaway here. And at the end of the day I know there’s no arguing any of you women down when you’re out of the gate this hard. I’m merely saying these things aren’t “equal and opposite” in totality. Are there cases of grooming young men? Sure.
As someone else in this thread mentioned, BECAUSE we have such a patriarchal society to date, younger men are definitely encouraged to be overly sexual and to display that to their peers. As such, breaking the rules to seduce an older woman? Who also is likely struggling with her age in a patriarch society which says women become less desirable as they age? That’s completely something younger men think of (from experience being and talking to peers) and at the end of the day we punish the woman
The point is if a minor does try to make advances to an adult it is the adults responsibility to shut that down and to know that it is wrong to do anything with a minor. Yes, there are cases where a male student has forced himself on a female teacher and that is not the situation that I was talking about in the post. In a situation like that I agree with you, the teacher is a victim and the male student would be 100% in the wrong.
