Meanwhile I’m stuck here in this ugly ass city named Houston that feels like a swamp and filled with highways and ugly suburbs and ugly politics and the only thing to do here is eat, drink, and shop.

After visiting earlier this year I get it that “city” just felt like an endless strip mall compared to the cities in the NE

Or you’re just too lazy to actually try. I come from an upper lower class family with a single mom who never took handouts, never had snap, Medicare, wic, section 8, food banks, none of it. We work hard for our money and somehow we always manage to scrape by, and even go on a cheap vacation every so often. My mom realized she wasn’t making enough so she took out a loan to back to grad school to get her masters. She’s been out of school for 3 years now and we’re creeping up to lower middle class.

Suffering because of some childish notion of pride is not something to brag about.

We’re almost at lower middle class now, own a 5 bedroom townhouse, everyone who needs a car has one (with my mom helping us buy them as much as she can) my siblings and I are all in school and my mom helps with tuition. And then there’s me, a disabled female who could just be lazy and live off disability. Instead I’ve been working since I was 10, finding jobs I can do and actually enjoy, I got a car, I pay for some of my school, I’m hoping to move out soon. And we did all of that without

Government assistance or “kissing billionaires boots.” You can do it too if you stop acting like a victim and take control of your life instead

I don’t think he understands that even if it was real socialism his “upper lower class family” would only benefit but hey that’s just logic🤷‍♂️

upvote 24 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #5 22h

Logic says socialism doesn’t work, has never worked, and will never work. Has no place in the US. If you think it works, move to a communist country. Then, let me know how happy and well off those folks are.

Capitalism is inherently oppressive. If you took all the people at the bottom, a new bottom would form

upvote 23 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #6 20h

By a very tiny fraction too

upvote 4 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #7 19h

I never said go full on socialist. No pure ideology works long term you need a balance and more socialism would only benefit the less wealthy

upvote 13 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #7 19h

Also socialism is different from communism but I don’t know if you’re ready for that conversation

upvote 16 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 19h

Not everyone is better but I get what you mean

upvote 3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #5 18h

No, we wouldn’t because I like to actually work for my money. Crazy concept I know

upvote -2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #7 18h

Exactly. And it’s a known fact that socialism leads to communism

upvote -3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #8 18h

Yeah there would be a new bottom. Because some people think it’s cool to live off of handouts and then complain about how it’s not enough. It’s a pretty simple concept

Anonymous replying to -> #6 18h

Hell yeah. Keep Wisconsin safe from socialism

Did you go to public school twin?

upvote 11 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #6 18h

Nope, my parents saved up for me to go private. Public schools near me are extremely dangerous (multiple got shut down and students murdered each other)

upvote -2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 18h

Just cause you “like to work for your money” doesn’t mean the less wealthy would benefit from more socialism

upvote 3 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #2 18h

This is just a stupid take

Do you believe that public schools should be shut down? How about public parks? Emergency responders? Police?

upvote 10 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 18h

If you think that’s why I’m sorry bro

upvote 8 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #6 18h

I mean public schools near me should be shut down. And wanting the emergency responders to stick around and get more funding is extremely anti liberal ideology. Remember defund the police? Clearly socialism will ruin this country

Yeah…I know it’s unfortunate, but she is entitled to her opinions because of free speech. Without free speech, we would be a lot worse off.

upvote -3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 18h

Like #5 has said before, pure socialism won’t work but a mixed economy will. You can see it in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Canada, Germany, etc. You can still work for your money if we add more socialism, it’s not like we’re fully upending the economy.

upvote 9 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #6 18h

All of those countries are 100% capitalist lmfao

upvote -1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 18h

Excuse me, I’ve been trying to be respectful of your arguments and opinion this whole time, and if you’re not going to give me the same respect in return, then it’s clear you’re only looking for an argument and not a civilized discussion. If that’s the case, I’m going to stop trying cuz you’re obviously too focused on winning to consider anything I’m saying.

I have been to countries with more socialism it’s pretty nice

upvote 6 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #8 18h

If you think they are 100% capitalist then you have no place in this conversation but again let me restate we are not arguing for pure anything we want a mix that benefits all of society

upvote 5 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #8 18h

They’re mixed economy. 100% capitalist would mean no social welfare programs.

upvote 8 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 18h

So poor people shouldn’t have schooling if they can’t afford private school?

upvote 11 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 18h

Liberalism just means arguing for change in policies or creating new policies. Conservatism is just arguing to conserve the policies we have in place right now. So technically arguing for defunding the police or funding them more are both liberal.
