This might sound weird but I don’t want kids mainly cause I feel like if they were more successful than me I’d start to view them as competition

And you know what? You’re 100% correct. I wouldn’t not want someone with this mindset to have kids. This is an objectively good choice

I’m assuming you’re still pretty young. How is a teenager or an early 20’s child going to be competition when you’re in your 40’s

You’d be surprised. It’s especially prevalent in mother-daughter dynamics. Jealous mothers will sabotage their daughter’s body image, sense of self worth, etc. just to feel better about themselves. Not saying OP is like that, but it’s a lot more common than you’d think. A lot of older adults are still immature as fuck.
