Open relationships is paradoxical. The partner wanting the third partner has to constantly gauge their spouse and make sure they don’t enjoy the third partner more than their spouse. In time that is hard to track and the spouse loses trust. So such relationships don’t hold up. Typically it’s seen as the last phase of their relationship.
