I firmly believe that anyone who calls themself a feminist or a human rights activist or simply anyone in the lgbtqia+ community should be protesting in light of the women in Afghanistan and Somalia yet I never hear anything about it

I think that’s the issue. “When practiced right”. When practiced wrong, as it is on an alarming level, we see war, terrorism, radical dictatorships, destruction of civil society and women’s rights, and horrific abuses

But when practiced “wrong” is following the Quran and the hadiths more closely. Practicing it more “right” according to human rights standards is less aligned with the Quran

So Islam doesn’t encourage anything to do with marrying underage children. In Islam you’re either an adult or a child and it is based on your physical, mental and biological state. If you have reached puberty, are mentally and physically mature then it is permissible for marriage.

I had my period at 10. I was still a child. A child should never carry a child in the womb, yet that’s exactly what they practice

This is correct. There are a lot of Muslims who don’t align with the Quran and Sunnah. They live and act within their cultural and societal norms. These should be judge as individuals or societies as a whole, NOT the religion.

So if you were a child as you say, you likely weren’t mental mature right? You couldn’t handle all “adult” responsibilities etc? So that isn’t permissible to marry. You need to fit all the criteria.

I’m telling you the criteria in Islam. Not the cultural norms or laws of a country. The legal age changes in every country every few years; it is subjective. Islam sets very strict criteria and requirement to allow marriage, that of which makes it subjective

my cousins are muslim. they are all women. they chose to wear hijabs, they were NOT encouraged to marry when they were children, and they support the lgbt+ community. they are happy and love their faith. when islam is used to promote hatred, of course it ends in violence. the same thing happens with christianity, but that doesn’t make christianity a bad religion, and it doesn’t make islam a bad religion.
