tbh, to me. some things are disagreeable on, and that okay. but in this particular political climate that has arisen, sometimes some disagreements are so polarizing there is no grounds for conversation :/ for example i say “ i think x group of people deserve basic human rights”. and then someone comes in and disagrees, or adds a caveat to those rights or straight up disagrees, im not going to try to compromise. something are compromisable. some aren’t
The funny thing is that there are so many people on either extreme. In politics, both far left and far right people are definitely equally as stupid, yet they see themselves as “right vs wrong”. Nuance is just lost on them. If you do t agree, you’re far right or far left to them, because everything is black and white and there is no grey. Sad
ironically this is partially the mindset I disagree with. I don’t think it’s necessarily about arriving at a compromise, in the same way that it’s not about proving intellect or morality, but it should be reaching understanding. Regardless of whether you would ever agree I feel that it is important to know the whole idea and not just ignore or avoid the conversation. For example, I disagree with how ICE is being ran but I wouldn’t want to not have that conversation. The challenge is important
To their benefit I will say that the purposeful misinformation in the digital age is absurd. We have to doubt what is in the news and what comes from the government and what videos we watch because it can all be fake. It feels almost impossible to say anything that isn’t polarized because you’ll be drowned out in the voices of the loud, I want my logic to be heard and analyzed but if I don’t say something extreme people don’t look. It’s almost like a bar to entry that gets higher and higher.
