maybe I’m too woke for y’all, but the entire concept of race is ridiculous to me. It’s literally a spectrum built to measure how far you are from being n4zi white. Even Italians and Irish weren’t considered white at first….. look at how Luigi Mangione was portrayed by the media as a terrorist just for looking ‘too Arab.’ race as we know it has always been about perception and control, and not biology.

oh and let me add another thing, if you have to ask an ambiguous looking person where they’re REALLY from… that person is not white passing.

Oh and how come east asian people aren’t considered white then? Some of them are the palest people I’ve ever seen. BUT they have other facial features that we use to categorize them as not white. Same thing goes for Hispanic people. People can usually still tell when you’re Hispanic, even if your skin is white. There’s a huge difference between being a white person and having white skin

Yeah I hate filling out these diversity questions for work apps. I’m a White (4th gen Scottish-American) Hispanic (1st gen Mexican-American). Why do I have to out myself as “Not specified” as a race/ethnicity even though Mexico is literally right next door?? “Two or more races (not Hispanic or Latino)” - WHY?!

You know south america was colonized, right? This is an oversimplification, but broadly speaking, the white hispanics are the decscendents of the colonizers, and more well-off. The darker nonwhite hispanics are poorer and the descendents of Indigenous peoples

that’s because Asian is literally its own race…… obviously they’re not considered white they’re from a larger racial group within Asia (east Asian, south Asian, etc.)

based on what exactly? the current U.S. census? do you even know the history? Hispanic people literally had to fight to be categorized as ‘white’ just to avoid discrimination, and even then they’re still racially profiled today by our government. Same thing with Arab people, they were only added to the “white” category because the U.S. didn’t want to admit that Jesus was Middle Eastern so they just made all middle easterners white.

quit being dense. being categorized as white never saved anyone… it just erased people’s actual experiences. hispanic people are rejecting it because what’s the point of being labeled white if you don’t get white privilege? all it does is make it that much easier for people to discriminate against you and for the government to ignore it, because they can hide behind the label instead of admitting their biases against these people. But now they can say “oh we’re not discriminating, they’re white”

omg. you are so willfully ignorant. it’s not about wanting to be white. it’s about whether you’re being perceived as the labels placed on you. anyone who’s ever tried to be seen as white is doing it for survival and not convenience. you’re blocked now, genuinely no point in talking to someone who refuses to see the issue in what the day.

yeah im an “other” so i completely feel you lmao. the government really doesn’t know what to do about me. I have several different govt documents where they have me listed on one as being black, one as white, and the other as Indian! like okay whatever the fuck that means 😭
