I saw a sign on campus that said “It’s okay to be white” and now the student body wants to form a committee to investigate “hate” because of the poster. How is the slogan “It’s okay to be white” remotely racist? Make it make sense

Because there’s a connotation of messages like that and white supremacy groups. It also mildly implies that white people are oppressed which is often touted by racists

White people and I’m talking Angelo Saxon whites not the Irish have not faced persecution have every advantage given to them seeing as more places will hire them they have more school opportunities and do not face discrimination by police. There is actually no reason to be ashamed of being white because we cannot control what race we are born and who created us. But to say it like white people are some oppressed group is just wrong. It’s not remotely true

You’re allowed to be proud of your race as long as you’re not white apparently. Imagine them forming a committee to remove Black Lives Matter, there would be a riot on campus

Racial pride is giga based. As long as you’re treating others fairly there is no reason why an individual cannot take pride in their race

Yes, I think it’s bad if someone thinks black people as a whole are better than other races. That’s not the same as being proud to be black or saying Black Lives Matter.

So that’s different because BLM does not invoke black supremacy. You are allowed to be proud of your culture, but whiteness in general isn’t really a culture outside of colonialism.

“It’s okay to be white” is a slogan mostly used by white supremacists who attempt to portray the dismantling of white supremacy as an attack against white people.

White is a construct. There is nothing to be proud about. You can be proud to be Irish, or proud to be French, or proud to be Italian. But “white pride” as an idea is something which historically has only existed to put down those who are not white. “Black pride” or “Asian pride” exists as a pushback against white supremacy which has created systematic oppression against those artificial groupings.

It’s the same reason theres a queer pride month but saying “straight pride” is weird as fuck. Queer pride only exists because those identities are oppressed by the dominant culture. The dominant group promoting their own “pride” is just weird because that shit is the privileged default.
