yes and bitch and cunt, unlike asshole and dick, have a history of discrimination behind them specifically towards women. it doesn’t matter how you personally feel about using them. when a man is insulted by being called that, what’s REALLY being insulted is his proximity to womanhood. (ie, he hurts himself and cries so he’s a bitch bc bitch = women and women are seen as weaker)
It’s only sexist in America and maybe a few other places dawg, the rest of the world doesn’t give a shit. Bitch isn’t sexist unless you only specifically refer to women as bitches and or only use it against women. If a man isn’t allowed to say bitch, then women aren’t allowed to call men dicks Or you can just stop being a lil bitch and stop taking it as a direct attack to your sex Why are we acting like bitch and cunt have a history like the N Word does when it’s not even close to similar.
That’s actually pretty sound logic. It’s highlighting fundamental inequality, which points out the imbalance in power. Punching up vs. punching down. Women have a massive variety of gendered insults: bitch, whore, slut, foid, cunt etc. and what do men have? Dick? Fuckboy? Are those used in even slightly equivalent ways? If you want to be oppressed so bad, we should start calling you lot scrotes.
There is a lot of angry men in the comments but I don’t necessarily agree with the person who posted. They’re claiming it’s the same as a slur and supporting the use of it within “their own” communities. The word bitch is not a slur and more importantly if you want people to stop using it then don’t pull the “it’s our word” bs as people try to with the n-word.
One of the definitions for the term “slur” is “a derogatory or insulting term applied to a particular group of people”. The term “bitch” is commonly known to mean “female dog [wolf, fox, or otter]”. By 1400 it had evolved to an insult for promiscuous women, then evolved to also insult men by implying they weren’t manly (calling them womanly essentially). In the 1960-70s, feminists began to reclaim the word.
Basically, it’s been a slur since at least 1400 because that is when the term started to be used to imply being a woman was lesser than a man. Most just don’t view it as a slur because it’s not seen as severe as other slurs (because it is so commonly heard/used compared to others), but that doesn’t make it not a slur. No, it doesn’t necessarily have the same weight socially as other slurs, but women still have the right to be offended if they hear a man say it.
I would invite you to notice the difference in how people typically use this word against women vs men. For women it’s typically to say she’s being rude or uncooperative (similar to asshole, but with more venom). For men it’s usually to call them weak, whiny, feminine, etc by *comparing* them to women. Basically it’s insulting women for being women, and men for being *like* women (or what they think women are like)
Yes, I’m aware where it originated from! But it absolutely CAN be used as a slur. Which is what #30 is disagreeing on by saying we’re getting slurs and insults mixed up. When by definition calling a woman a bitch is considered to be a misogynistic slur. It’s not in opinion. If it was just an opinion I wouldn’t be able to back it up. Thanks for your input tho!
1. If you don’t want people to reply to your PUBLIC comment then don’t make them? 2. You’re mad for no reason. Where in your original comment did you say it’s both? Your original comment was insinuating that it’s not a slur and that people are mixing up slurs and insults. Be more clear next time bc that’s not what you had said. That’s the WHOLE reason for my reply to begin with bc you made it seem like it couldn’t be used as a slur.
