i want to attend my local AA meetings because yeah i’ve head a problem and want the support/accountability, however, my local AA is run but a hyper religious group of people.. and i’m agnostic. so i feel like i’ll be ostracized or outcast :/

Indeed yeah, a lot of AA meetings are held at churches because they have the space/capacity to host a meeting and that also includes the religion as well in some cases. in your case I would look for cafe or coffee shop AA meetings, I don’t know if they are popular in Arizona but I know they exist

Maybe some sort of group therapy? Probably costs I guess though. AA tends to interpreted religiously due to its very spiritual beliefs and Christian founders, my Dad also didn’t like AA because of this. I guess you could try a different chapter on your area though maybe.

Maybe look into a sponsor that’s not necessarily religious and they don’t have to be the ones that “lead” the meetings but someone with recovery experience, just having someone who understands the steps and requirements of meetings to help you and guide you

i’ll try to do so maybe.. i just can’t listen to a meeting of people taking about god when i know god is more evil than alcohol
