I’ve been keeping a Duolingo Streak for more than 6 years and they can’t even give me a phone number to call for customer service. I kind of regret even keeping the streak if the company dgaf enough to let me speak to a person

yeah they don’t have someone for you to call, they offloaded a majority of their employees and run mostly on ai!!! I deleted duolingo when i found that out

This is from a match I played today against someone on there today. This is how they speak when you win, and yeah, the other person probably gets a different screen, but it goes against sportsmanship in chess

I want to speak to customer service because on top of their app being ineffective it's mean spirited. I've been using the app for YEARS and it does not help with building understanding of a language at all. They introduced chess as a course and I’m finally learning something, but they programmed the characters to make weird condescending comments while you play

I know it might not seem like a big deal, but it kind of breaks something in you psychologically to spend 6+ years doing something fruitless, finally start learning something, and then get mocked by the app for trying to learn something. I stayed with the app despite it being ineffective, the limited access without premium, and the rebranding. I don't want to drop it after 6+ years, but I'm literally being mocked by the app now. I just want to turn off the mean comments so I can keep learning

So let me get this straight. You want to call them because there’s a “competitive” game on there with chess and the fake characters are mocking you? How are they mocking you?

Chess as a sport is built on sportsmanship and showing respect to your opponents whether you win or lose. That's why there hasn't actually been a checkmate in a world chess champions since the 1920s . I don't mind being told I lost or won, but I think it's mean spirited to say you ended someone's hope and dreams if you beat them at chess

That’s it? That’s not even harsh. It’s chess on a free to use app, not the world chess championship. Besides even if it was about sportsmanship everyone shoes it differently and some don’t show it at all. If you choose to be a good sport; good on you. Doesn’t mean the world will do the same.

Look, if you don't care as someone who doesn't use the app, that’s chill. I'm someone who has probably spent hundreds of hours on it since first downloading it in 2015, and genuinely using it every day for 6 years. If I’m really unhappy with something on the app enough to reach out after a decade of using it, it would mean a lot to me if they could at least respond to me with a generic e-mail saying ‘oof that sucks’ when I’m trying to reach out even if it seems dumb to other people
