Christians love pulling the “where do you get your morality” card. I get it from the same place that tells us slavery is wrong, because your Bible sure doesn’t say it is.

I don’t need a book to tell me to be a decent human - kinda weird they’d be comfortable murdering people if it didn’t say not to

Interesting that is actually from the Bible

Empathy and gold rule are enough. To put it simply… I don’t like being stabbed…so I’m not gonna stab.

That’s what irks me because literally the second book of the Bible has God sending plagues to the slave owners for imprisoning people for 400 years- like why weren’t they looking at those scriptures and seeing the connection?

You know Saint Augustine had to develop the concept of consent, right?

Maybe because those plagues weren’t a punishment for slavery in general but just for enslaving his favorite people

Hmmm… yeah, but at least it was stated that God saw that they were suffering under it. It does at least acknowledge it’s never the best situation anyone can be in- even more so when an entire civilization is involved under it

It’s just annoying they were choosing the wrong scriptures to justify theirs instead of seeing themselves as the Egyptians of the time

You mean just his chosen people. Lots of verse that acknowledge slavery as perfectly normal. None clarify that owning a human being as property is wrong.

Yeah the slavery thing is definitely a thing of the past- kinda how we don’t use the reservoirs or chariots mentioned in the scriptures either. It never says you SHOULD be involved in slavery, but I can see where they saw slavery for the time being a norm… whenever it’s mentioned it’s directed to the people the authors were sending letters to… the main gospels didn’t mention it since it’s never been the point of the bible. To me it’s a flaw of the times and places they were in

Even so, that is a hole in the question of “where do you get your morality” that Christians like to use. The same place that interpreted slavery as no longer acceptable even though God never disowns it in the Bible.

This is kinda random- but I just remembered something… I think the bible itself recognizes that people who don’t know it have morality. In Romans 2:14-15, the author states that gentiles (non-jews) have a conscience, and therefore have a law to themselves (there’s more to this but I just wanted to emphasize this point) I don’t know where the morality argument started from when it clearly comes from society, history and one’s culture…

If a child can have cancer while Trump can be president… there is no god
