i disagree with the manipulation. for example, i try to be kind to someone even if i don't like them, it's not honest but it's not manipulation

I agree with you I think manipulation has to have an intent to meddle to be considered manipulation

Yeah I guess when you’re being kind for selfless motives even if you’re not totally feeling it that’s just civility

How is being kind to someone you don’t necessarily like a form of dishonesty? You conflating the two doesn’t make my original statement any less true. I’m OK with people who disagree but I don’t think this particular reason makes much sense.
