I was in creative writing for four years in high school! To keep characters consistent, give them a motivation, a goal, and a character flaw that challenges their ability to reach their goal. This will make their decisions, dialogue, and reactions to events seamless while writing! And again, just be the first draft down even if it makes no sense at all! Good luck!
