First crash dummy modeled after female anatomy (rather than a scaled down version of male crash dummies) didn’t come out until 2022, its only now being implemented in crash tests, it was a necessary change because women sustain a disproportionate amount of car crash injuries partly due to design flaws, so no cars weren’t made for women in mind
They are. They were just called child sized dummies before that. It’s optics not actual design. When SUVs got mainstream around y2k manufacturers thought consumers wanted them for off-roading. Five years later they realized that the boost in suv sales came from women buying cars, so actually most features of SUVs were designed specifically for women
Did their crash tests use women modeled dummies or just child dummies with breast attachments though? Humanetics’ model accounts for how the seatbelt sits on the body due to pelvis, and other differences in bone structure (added pic for comparison). Women are more prone to certain injuries in a crash which is why they’re trying to figure out what can be done to make things safer (see article above). A feminine design doesn’t make up for thorough safety testing.
