I’m so glad the “clanker” trend is over with. It was funny very early on, but then it got too popular and some people seemed TOO excited to say it, like they were dying to say a “slur” without consequences

I was genuinely starting to feel bad for the hypothetical future robots and androids tbh, I felt like I needed to start standing up for them and forming some sort of future android rights group 😭 (I've played Detroit Become Human like 9 times)

Yeah some people really laid into that hard R a bit too eagerly

There’s a reason I put it in quotes. It’s not an actual slur, but the fact that people were getting SUCH a kick out of saying a fictional slur that has the same “er” at the end as the hard R should definitely rub people the wrong way

It literally originated as a slur for robots in Star Wars

yes.....for robots.....in a movie, that is the funny part. Your panties are in a twist over a "slur" that applies to robots and ai. I'd understand if the trend was taken too far and people started calling humans that or something often but robots aren't sentient so they will be okay, and so will you.

The point isn’t that I feel bad for the robots/ai. I found it funny at first. The point I’m making is that some people were taking it too far and getting too excited to say it. It started to give less of a “haha I would be that homophobic uncle at thanksgiving but for AI” and more of a “I think saying slurs is funny but it’s social suicide so I’m going to make the most of saying this instead.” It started off being used tastefully, but then became what felt like a substitution for the real deal.

I’m not saying there should be any real social consequences for people who said or are saying it. I’m just saying after it exploded in popularity, most if its usage was untasteful and felt like weird behavior

Right it makes you wonder about their internal thought process…
